Battery crazy

Now the battery (I think) is acting strange. A while back I plugged the phone in but it didn't show that it was charging. I decided to shut it off and deal with it later. Well, whaddya know, I went back after some hours and it showed 99 percent. It's been that way ever since. I shut it off and plug it in and apparently it mostly charges. I guess it's not that big a deal but it's a little annoying. How do I fix this?

What phone, how old is the battery, and am I reading you right that it now only charges when the phone is off?

And it's still the case that it doesn't even show a charging indicator if turned on? Does using a different charger or cable make a difference? Does it register that you've plugged a cable in at all (what if you connect it to a computer, for example)? Just trying to get a feel for the problem - not responding at all when running android sounds like either a very bad connection or a software problem, but I'm not certain it isn't the battery.

Thanks, it's a Coolpad Canvas that I got over the holidays. I guess the battery would be the same age as the phone because it's the one that came with it. I have sort of tried other chargers but it's really hard to find one that fits. After struggling with this, I've pretty much given up on other chargers and just leave this one that I know works plugged into it, as in I almost always have the charger plugged into the phone itself, even if it's not connected to the wall. It's just not worth the hassle to plug and replug, especially if I don't know for sure that it'll fit this time. For the record, this is not that detachable USB kind. It's just a straightforward charger that doesn't come apart, though the prongs do fold. I'm not even sure this is the charger that came with it. Yes, you read it right that if I just plain plug it in it doesn't show that it's charging. What I do is plug it in shut off and when I come back, maybe hours later, even overnight, it shows 99℅. I don't really have the option to plug it into the PC because of the charger tip problems. Instead I take out the SD card, put that in the little holder, put them both in the slot on the PC, and go from there. Incidentally, the last time I did that, the PC wouldn't open the card or scan it. I finally just had to eject it, but when I put it back in the phone, it seemed to be all right.

Now it's started out at 98%. The other day it was already on and showed 100%. Is this only going to get worse? Sometimes it stops responding and I just shut it down and let it rest. What should I do about this?
