Root Battery drain issues with apocalypse rom

Muk343

Newbie
While on apocalypse rom battery drains unusually fast after the 15% mark.
Overall the battery works quite well but after it reaches 15% mark it just abruptly drains out. Tried finding solutions to the above problem but couldn't get a perfect answer.
The situation is too dangerous for me as as I use my phone as alarm clock and it has high possibility that the phone might automatically get switched off during the night. So please reply with a concrete solution as soon as possible.

Thanks

does the alarm work when the phone is off??

i keep my old nokia phone switched off with the alarm on and it rings every morning and that to on time.. :p

Nope...alarm in galaxy ace doesn't work when its off.
That's why i am worried as my phone (having sufficient battery) automatically switched off during the night. Never had this problem on on other roms that i have tried till now.

Upgrade your kernel, that build of the rom comes with firekernel, it was still in development when this rom was released. Try the latest version.

You are not experiencing battery drain, you are a victim of the faulty battery indicator, the overall battery life from this kernel is very good, it just has a bad indicator. In another version of this kernel i used to get 10hr battery from 100-15% and then another 10hrs during the last 15%.
Most probably that problem has been fixed now, check the kernel's thread for changelog and update!

Just one or two doubts before i flash the kernel
1. If i make a nandroid backup of my rom(apocalypse) can i restore it if something goes wrong while flashing kernel.
I know that you cannot restore rfs based rom over ext based rom..... so if i take a nandroid backup of my (current) ext based rom can i restore it over any other ext based rom?

2. I couldn't get proper tuts on flashing kernel. Is it just like flashing any other zip or some extra works needs to be done?

btw i am a rookie.....just flashed some roms 3-4 time so is it risky to flash a kernel or is it just as simple as flashing a rom.

Detailed steps of how to flash a kernel would be appreciated.

Thanks

1.Just make a nandroid backup of apocalypse(current rom) and restore this whenever you want. If i am not wrong you can even restore an ext system rom backup onto rfs rom, becaue cwm can convert rfs to ext but not the other way.
For your current situation, just make a backup, if you have any trouble just restore it.

2.Flashing a kernel is same as flashing a rom, and with firekernel its much more simpler because it comes in aroma installer. Just mount system and install the zip file, after you click install zip in recovery a touch based installation app will startup where you can select your choices, keep clicking next and install the kernel, just like installing any software on a windows machine.
If you have doubts about the choices given in it, ask in the kernel's thread or google them. You might have this doubt in the last version only, its a bit extra customizable, the ones before it are extremely simple, just choose OC or NON-OC kernel as per your preference and install.

Don't worry, just check the first page of the thread and read last few pages, its no big deal to flash a kernel.

Thanks dude! Flashed my first kernel successfully.

Btw whats the major difference between oc and non oc? Is the only difference is that in cyanogenmod settings you would get options to overclock it beyond 800 or something else too?

PS: Still have to see if the inaccurate battery reading got fixed or not......
hoping for the best.

Yes its just the overclocking ability, most users do it for high performance, i know i do :D
I keep my cpu frequencies to max at 844mhz and min at 245mhz with the smartassv2 governor.
