Battery issues with new update

Lurker
Ever since the most recent update, my battery seems to drain considerably faster than it did before. If i do not have the screen at its darkest and the battery saver on, it will not last more than 3 hours even if most of that is on standby. Today, ive been up for 30 min without either of those on, and its already at 70%. One thing i did notice is the android OS is using the most battery.

Has anyone else been dealing with this?

How long since the update occurred?

when my S5 updated from 4.4.4 to 5.x the 1st 24 hours or so had lousy battery performance, then it just settled down to normal again.

I did a restart twice during that time.

I think most of it was just optimizing the apps for the new OS though.

I found sometimes it is best to delete cache to make sure the apps are not using cache created with an old android version. Try the following, it works with most android versions

1. Turn off your phone

2. Press and hold the Power, Volume Up and Home buttons simultaneously.

3. You can release them when you see the Samsung logo with Recovery booting written in blue at the very top of the screen.

4. You will be brought to the Android System Recovery screen

5. Use the volume buttons to scroll down the list to highlight Wipe Cache Partition and use the Power button to confirm your selection.

7. You'll see a notification at the bottom of the screen in yellow to show that the system cache has been wiped.

8. If Reboot System Now is not already highlighted, use the volume keys to highlight Reboot System Now and press the Power button to confirm.
