Battery life being drained on Samsung S7

Hi everyone, I'm new to Android after being an Apple user for 7 years!

I took the plunge and upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and must say I am loving it!

However ....

My battery is being drained far to quickly for my liking. It goes on Charge overnight, I'll unplug it roughly around the 7am mark. By 12pm I am having to charge it again as it's under 50%.

I've tried the following to help preserve it ...
> Low Power mode is enabled constantly
> Mobile Hotspot / NFC / Sync / Always on Display / S Finder are all OFF
> I've turned the LED notification off
> Screen Brightness is set to just under a 1/4 of the bar
> As soon as I stop using my phone, I close the app completely so nothing is running in the background.

Looking in the Battery Usage section I have the following for the past 8 Hours:

Android OS - 29%
Cell Standby - 19%
Google Play services - 17%
Screen - 13%
Android System - 7%
Voice Calls - 6%
Device Idle - 2%
Maps - 2%

I have no idea why Maps is even showing on there as I haven't used that since having the phone and can't understand why the Android OS is using so much of the battery.

Any Ideas? Is there some other setting I can change or do I need to return the handset?

Thanks :)

What's your cell reception like? if its bad that will cause battery drain and also how long has the screen been on for betweeen 7am and 12pm usually? When the phone is idle it should be using about 1-2% per hour, if its using a lot more than that, then its either poor cell reception as mentioned or another rogue app chewing it up. Or it could be you have a lot of social media background data updates going on.

Failing those things, the next thing to try is clearing the cache partition.

I switched from iPhone to Android too and these threads have helped a lot (:

After the latest update, my battery drained at incredible speeds too. I wiped the cache partition (like blOforger mentioned above) and now my phone is back to normal. I read in another thread that usually after a system update, we should always wipe the system cache.

How to clear the system cache on the Galaxy S7:
  1. Turn the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge off
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons at the same time until the Android logo shows up and the phone vibrates
  3. Then let go of the Power button and continue to hold the other buttons
  4. Use the volume buttons to scroll down to highlight Wipe Cache Partition
  5. Press the Power button
  6. Scroll down to Yes and press the Power button
  7. Scroll to Reboot System Now and press Power
  8. Your Galaxy S7 will reboot with a cleared system cache
Hope it works for you too. Good Luck!
