Battery life

What's up with the terrible battery life on the s7? I feel somewhat mislead by all the review I read before I got two of these things for my family. The battery life is worse than my s5, even though the battery is much bigger. Plus, the biggest consumer is consistently android itself, rather than screen. This should just not be. All the reviews I watched and read mentioned optimized software that should lead to enhanced battery life. Not my experience at all. Anyone else?

Some googling seems to indicate that some others are having this problem, but I honestly expected a lot more conversation on this subject. Android System is the worst battery offender? Why? Are there plans to fix this? This is the only thing standing in the way of this being the most awesome phone I've owned to date.

It, in part, rather depends on which model of Galaxy S7 you have... Global, Exynos, or U.S.A. Qualcomm, Snapdragon...

US models, poor battery, audio and slow

Also, if you have received any firmware updates, have you wiped your cache partition...

This is something of a hollow argument. I don't think there's any product, issue, or topic when you'll do an online search and end up with multiple postings where someone agrees or disagrees with you.

I did not wipe cache after the initial update which we did pretty much first thing after buying the phone. Maybe this will help. I will let you know.

While I agree with the sentiment that you can google just about anything and find comradarie on the web, it seems like others with the US Snapdragon model are complaining about the high amount of battery being used by "Android System" and/or "Android OS". My daughter leaves her phone in power saving mode constantly and still sees a lot of battery going to these categories. This should not be the case.

Clearing the cache is simply deleting temporary files.

Clearing your cache partition is a little different than cleaning a cache on an individual app.

I'm not quite sure what your point is. They are still only files and files do not cause battery drain, apps do.

"The /cache partition is mostly for saving the downloads from Google Play Store, found in /cache/downloads. It also can hold the recovery log found in /cache/recovery called last_log as well (this holds any errors and/or diagnostics from the recovery binary a lá CWM or stock, which will get logged in the file to aid debugging and development of the recovery binary).

There is also another directory in there called lost+found which holds any recovered files (if any) as a result of file-system corruption, such as incorrectly removing the SDcard without un-mounting it."

Therefore, as you can see, any corruption of the cache partition can lead to battery drain if the system is attempting to make calls on it unsuccessfully and can even cause boot looping. Always best practice to wipe it after an update, to clear out any detritus.

With all due respect -- please. You're trying to rationalize an unrealistic assertion. Clear the cache partition - fine. But that will in no way whatsoever impact battery performance.
