Help Battery on my new Galaxy Ace

nikki702

Newbie
Hi everyone

I recently bought a samsung galaxy ace locked to 3, I unlocked it online and updated the android to fix the text message issue, I then rooted the phone to remove the russian apps that the android update put on there.

Now my problem is with the battery...

I fully charged it today and removed it from the charger at 2pm. By 8pm the battery was on 16% and a message displayed to plug in the charger.

How can I improve the battery life? its driving me crazy help please :D

First check your wireless, GPS & Bluetooth in case any were switched on. Nect go to Settings, About Phone, Battery Usage & see what's been draining it. Maybe an app is running in the background &/or constantly pulling data down?

Thanks for your reply, I had gps switched on for about 5 mins earlier
The battery info says:

cell standby: 38%
phone idle: 37%
display: 16%
voice calls: 15%
maps: 6%

Hmm, can you keep an eye on that top one for me please? I've encountered this on an HTC ChaCha before, where the standby went though the roof, draining the crap out of the battery. I eventually narrowed it down to only happening once a call had been made or received.

So please:
1. Report back in a few hours time with the standby percentage.
2. Tonight, restart the phone, charge it overnight & report back what the standby figure is in the morning.
3. Keep an eye on it, especially after you make/receive your first call tomorrow. I want to see whether it's steadily climbing, or shooting up once the handset is used.

Turn bluetooth, all application opened in the background you don't need. If you want you can factory reset your phone but you will lose all your apps, messages, contacts etc from internal memory.

I turned the phone off all night and left it on charge.. the alarm didn't wake me up this morning I thought the phone would switch itself on and the alarm would go off like my blackberry used to but it didn't lol

anyway I have made two calls today and here is what it says:

voice calls: 55%
cell standby: 22%
phone idle: 15%
display: 11%

and the battery is on 81%

Thankfully I wasn't in a rush haha

I have just restarted made short call earlier for a few mins

Now it says

cell standby: 34%
voice calls: 31%
phone idle: 31%
display: 5%

Battery 39%

It just don't last.. is there any way of making it last longer or a better battery I could buy?

Did rooting the phone cause this do you think?

With the ChaCha, the thinking is that the sensors are constantly working (its sensors are used for silly little features, like raising the volume of the ringtone when it's in your bag/pocket). I've not heard of it on an Ace before.

Rooting certainly wouldn't cause it, and there are no apps draining the battery. The battery itself probably isn't the problem, it's that Standby mode draining it down. Replacement batteries are the same mAH as the stock one, so unlikely to help. If I were you, I'd do a factory reset.

Because you're rooted, it's not as annoying as it sounds. Download Titanium Backup & back all apps + data up to your SD card. Then factory rest, re-install Titanium & restore apps + data (NOT system settings!).

It'll mean re-applying all of your system settings, but it may just solve your problem.

I done that will have to wait and see how it goes now.. its telling me it needs charging so I will charge it over night but leave it on so my alarm wakes me up lol .. Thanks for all the help :D

No worries.

What I'd really like you to do is re-start, charge it fully and leave it in airplane mode for, say, 4 hours. Note down the percentages, then re-start, charge it fully and leave it in normal mode for 4 hours with NO CALLS & note percentages. Then re-start, charge it fully and leave it in normal mode for 4 hours with one or two calls, note percentages.
