Help Battery won't charge past 48%

TRBob

Lurker
The phone was left to charge up overnight and I noticed this morning that it had only gotten to 48%, so left it a while longer and it's still at 48%.

A quick google has shown others with similar issues, including people that changed the battery and charger but the problem persisted, however no solutions were posted in these threads.

The phone has the latest firmware and is a few weeks away from being 2 years old. I bought it SIM free from Amazon.

Any suggestions of how to fix this would be very much appreciated.

It's the charger port. Solutions?

1. Pay somebody to change the port. I stopped off at CPR (Cell Phone Repair) yesterday, and the guy said it's $99. He also said it's VERY common for S3s and it's an obvious design flaw.

2. Change the port yourself. Lots of youtube videos on how to do it. WAY out of my wheelhouse, so not an option for me.

3. Get an external battery charger for about $5 and a spare battery or two at $10/each. This is what I did. A lot cheaper than a new phone or paying someone to fix this one!

A friend suggested that I do a reset where you hold the home button and the down volume button, this appears to have fixed it as it charged up to 100% last night.

Hey,

did you solve the problem at the end? I have a similar one... After finding out about the issues, I even bought a new battery, the phone works better but still it won't charge over 75% over the whole night. A guy in a store recommended me to change the connector but it's for 35 euros so first I would like to find out if there are any other options because I'm afraid that changing the connector won't help and I will just loose money...

Hi Michal0l, yes it has charged up to 100% a few times now since I did the reset that I mentioned in my previous post, I held down the home button first, then very shortly after held the volume down button and this made the phone reset, then when placed on charge it charged up to 100%.

I restarted my device (just a regular restart with all data intact) and then it charged to 100% over night. So I will see for how long it will keep working.
