Best alternative to iPhone 4?

I'm looking to replace my ancient Droid and have been researching Android phones. 95% of people I know have iPhones; I don't want one because I hate how limited the screen layout is.

However, I'm having a hard time making comparisons. I'm on Verizon and care the most about these things:

1. A reasonably speedy, good quality camera (so I don't constantly miss shots waiting for the camera to load).
2. Relatively speedy maps/Internet, so I'm not waiting 10 minutes to find an address.
3. Longer battery life, so I can make it through a full day of work and still be able to use the GPS at the end of the day.

I don't play games or watch movies on my phone, nor do I listen to music on it. It seems like Android cameras are notoriously crappy, so which on is the best so I can use Instagram like everyone else? Which Android phone will best be able to allow me to use the similar features and apps as my friends with iPhones? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to android forums!!!

The HTC ONE X, Samsung Galaxy SIII, and Galaxy Nexus are the top of the line phones that are out right now. I would start by comparing those.

& did I mention they blow the iPhone out of the water? :p

If a camera is important to you, it goes without saying to avoid the Razr Maxx. It's a good phone, but the camera is lacking.

Essentially, any of the dual core devices will provide an equivalent (though more than likely a better one) experience throughout use.

I think the Galaxy S2 was the turning point where the iPhone officially became out-dated. There really aren't any more hang ups in the UI of phones now. Occasionally a glitch or a bug will pop up, but no more / less often than would an iPhone. They're not exactly perfect, you know.
For a perspective here... my Evo 3D was comparable to the 4s in speed, and fluidity (once running 4.0.3, that is). Only thing that ducked was it's old beat up headphone jack that would malfunction all day. Different tale for a different forum on that though.
