Best android phone for around 3 years of usage ?

Ayhio

Newbie
Hello,
so I have an old nokia 5800XP and I'm looking for a big upgrade.I like to keep my phones for a long time(had my nokia for 3 years) so I want an android device which will have the longest update and developer support.I'm thinking about getting a samsung galaxy nexus because well it's a google phone and will be updated for a long time whether the google way or the developer way but it's a litte dated phone. The S3 on the other hand is newer and got better specs but I'm not sure if it will be supported by samsung/developers for enough time(specially that as I saw on xda both the S2 and the S3 are suffering in jelly bean AOSP development). So what do you think guys ?

Hi Ayhio,

I'm also searchinh for a similar device. From what I've read on here and xda - a popular high-end product will attract enough dev support to keep it going.

I'm personally looking at the One S but I think either the S3 or One X could be an option for you.

Even the ageing S2 would be a good choice as I doubt development will stop anytime soon due to it's popularity last year.

Yeah but you are not 100% sure that the development would go easy on them.Codeworkx(member of teamhacksung) who is the one who gives cyanogenmod to the S2 and the S3 said that exynos chips on s2/s3 is very hard to develop on and an update from samsung would be necessary for the ROM to be stable.

The Galaxy Nexus has by far the longest lifespan of any android device. Updates straight from Google, before anyone else. Like you said, it's slightly dated. Usually we see a new Nexus device in November, so if you can hold out until then you will have yourself the latest and greatest toy with a very long lifespan.

This exactly

Having had both phones I'd say if you were in a position that you NEEDED a phone now I'd say go with the S3 (an unlocked version). While there may be a point where the updates stop or slow down from Samsung I can see the development community going on for quite some time with a device like this.
