Best Android Value T-Mobile?

Hello. I am currently using an iPhone 4S on Verizon, but am going to switch to T-Mobile, and along with it, I am switching to Android simply because IOS is so boring now. I really like the value of the T-Mobile plans, with the one caveat being the non-subsidized phones. I am willing to pay for a high-end device in the 600 dollar range such as the HTC One or Galaxy S4. My only concern is paying so much money only for the device to become outdated. I then looked at something like the Nexus 4 for only $300 unsubsidized, which was appealing due to its cost, although it doesn't seem as good as the previously mentioned handsets. I even looked as far back as the T-Mobile G2 on eBay, which I could get for dirt cheep at around $75 used then upgrade to a better device when it comes out. My main question is, would you recommend snagging one of the top end Android handsets now, or buying a lower end handset and waiting for something better to come out. If you think option 2 is better, please include which device(s) you think would be the best value for that. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!

Hey, welcome to the forums!

The HTC One and Galaxy S4 are incredible devices and they would be well worth the money since they just came out. I'm sure they'd last way over 2 years.
Now if you want a MUCH larger screen, there's the Galaxy Note 3 that is to come out towards the latter half of this year, but only if a 6inch screen and the SPen is necessary. Otherwise, the aforementioned devices would be a good choice.

Nexus 4 is a terrific value. Half the price of the Samsung S4 and better build quality. Plus, since it's a Nexus it will get immediate updates to the latest Android OS for quite a while, making it less likely to become obsolete than other phones.

Phones are sorta like computers.
Outdated the second they are released.

You should just get a device capable of what you want.

Similar to above....any phone becomes more outdated every day, regardless if it was subsidized or not. Also, whether or not you are subsidizing a phone (read "subsidizing" as "I am paying for this phone over time" NOT as "I am getting the phone for cheap") does not make it become more or less outdated faster/slower.

Remember, there will always be a better phone coming out and the price of the phone you bought just a month or two ago will always be cheaper over time. Best to make the best decision you can on the day you buy the phone.

(On a side note, buying a Nexus device means that your hardware will never change - same is true of all phone - but at least you know you will definitely get the Android upgrade and in a timely manner. Instead of hoping that your carrier MIGHT decide you want the upgrade months after Nexus users already received it straight from google.)

Moved this here as it will be best served here, cheers

On another note be prepared for the difference in coverage from Verizon to TMobile. Speaking a little from experience, but mainly speaking more from what I have read in these forums. So just a thought for you to think about, sometimes saving money is not always the best, so I would definitely check how good the TMobile service is in your area, and always remember you could always try it first and if you don't like it or not satisfied, you can use buyers remorse.
