I wanted to back up my apps so i can do a full restore but i dont want to lose all my data like how far i got in angry birds and stuff. My phone is not rooted..So if anyone knows a good one,id really appreciate it.

Thanks.

The only way for you to do a complete backup is to be rooted. There are apps, like Astro, MyBackup Pro, etc that will save the apps, but they don't save data. They also do not save the Market link for the app, so if you use those programs to restore the app, you will not see it in your "My Apps" section of the Market and thus not get updates to them.

To do what you want, you have to be rooted.

Exactly. If you are not rooted, the non-root backup apps just save a "list" of all your apps. It does NOT backup the app itself, nor the data for that app.

One thing I should mention, if an app's developer chooses to, he can allow MyBackup Pro to backup the data for the app. However, there doesn't seem to be a lot of programs that allow this. I am pretty sure Angry Birds does not fit into this category.

Non-rooted phones work based on the Android SDK API so if there isn't any offered we cannot give those features to users. Those that do demand rooted or use un-documented SDK API which may break in another version release from Android.

I feel users need to be aware of this issue. Root gives power and so does un-documented SDK API. But once a new version came along or they do a upgrade of Android version, the previous app will just break.

That is why for rooted or un-documented SDK API apps is always updating their apps to be forward compatible. A futile and time consuming process. Why can't all developers be obedient and follow instructions laid down by Android ? Only obedient apps will be forward compatible as "guaranteed" by Android :P
