Even though I have unlimited data and am able to use Google for navigation, I also sport the CoPilot for North America. I can put the phone in Airplane mode and it will still navigate the course as well as reroute as necessary. I know non North American versions are more expensive, but I can't imagine they aren't worth it. It is now my go to navigation app for the $10 I spent.Co Pilot is something I see recommended a fair bit.

It's pretty pricey when you start adding map packs though.
I'm not sure data rates over your side of the pond. When my oldest stepson get's his first bit over 2GB it's a $10 hit to my bill, and again each time thereafter he goes over the additional GB. Most of his usage outside of streaming music (what's wrong with the radioTen quid is reasonable, but it's near double that over here. When you factor in exchange rate, it equates to about $30.

) is navigation and the app will quickly paid for itself when I make him buy it on his phone too.

).Google Now can also tell you where you parked, if you enable parking reminders. I'm directionally challenged & so is my best friend, so I've used this a few times, it's really handy!* There are also specialist apps for e.g. tagging where you parked your car, but you can do that type of thing with many of the apps I've mentioned above.
