Update. I rooted my phone using Gingerbreak v1.2. It was surprisingly easy and worked well. I swapped my micro SD card, because it says that gingerbreak may format your card, though I don't think that it did. I downloaded gingerbreak onto my computer then copied the apk file to the SD card and ran the app. After rooting my phone, I used ES file explorer to delete useless system apps. Just make sure the check off the 'backup system apps' box just in case you accidentally delete a critical system app. Enjoy!
