Best screen protector

What's the verdict with the best screen protector. Reading various posts and on Reddit it seems they are all rubbish. Currently using Spigen Rugged Armour case which is great but would like to protect the front
 
I think there are degrees of rubbishness - ones with black glass over the bezels that didn't include a cut-out for the light sensor set the gold standard for trash. ;)

It depends what you want from them, but there's just enough curve on the glass that even ones that are a few mm narrower than the screen end up with slight air gaps at the edges. I've not seen reports of any that are perfect yet - but if you drop it on uneven ground maybe imperfect will still seem acceptable.
 
Yep seems that way and I guess maybe early days. My case has the bumper around the front but conscious of keys in the pocket scratching. Not sure how strong the glass is
 
I keep phone and keys in different pockets, but the glass ought to stand up to keys. It's bits of sand or quartz/silicate grit you should worry about for scratches.
 
Lol, screen protector - When I bought my Pixel 2 the dweeb at the Verizon store put a screen protector on without asking me if I wanted one. I got home and found out the Pixel 2 has Gorilla Glass 5 - No screen protector - peeled that shit off and threw it away. Verizon paid for it.
 
Depends what you want, how you will use it, what risks you will take. Gorilla Glass 5 can scratch (mine picked up some very fine scratches within a week or so), and it can crack or shatter. It stands up to abuse better than regular glass, but it's still glass. So it's your call, but the people who do choose to use one have legitimate reasons to do so.

Best screen protector is the Power Support 3D tempered Glass Film designed for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2xl Its a little expensive but completely covers the screen and goes on pretty easy.

I like the look of those Spigen cases.... what did you end up going for in the end...

I've actually got one of those. It offers pretty good protection - obviously doesn't cover the screen, but has a fairly deep lip. And looks pretty decent. However, I don't use it very much because it does add a bit more bulk than my other cases, which as someone with quite small hands is a drawback for daily use, and actually is probably the least grippy of my cases to hold (which surprised me - maybe with more wear it will improve?).

The others I have are a really cheap clear TPU case that I bought before I had the phone, just so that I had something, and a Ringke Fusion (clear polycarbonate back and smoked TPU bumper sides). The cheapo TPU adds very little bulk, is quite grippy, but has almost no lip (so doesn't protect the screen at all) and, as is the way of these things, is turning yellow already. Naturally I started looking for alternatives quite quickly.

The Fusion is the one I use most: slightly larger than the TPU job but smaller than the Spigen, raised lip but more at the top and bottom than the sides, so protects the phone when placed face down but doesn't really interfere with access to the screen, provides surprisingly good grip and the smoked TPU shouldn't yellow like the clear stuff (and will be much less visible if it does).

However, I am now looking at book/wallet-style cases as well. I always do this, end up buying several cases and after a while just using 1 or 2 of them...

I installed a Whitestone Dome Glass protector on my Pixel 2 last night. This is a bit different than most other screen protectors in that it uses a liquid adhesive rather than something that's pre-applied to the glass. The result is much more even adhesion, which also means the touch response is fantastic even without the unsightly dot matrix pattern.

The install process is a bit complex, but not difficult. I really liked that it uses a jig to help get the glass perfectly centered on the first try. I was a bit skeptical, but I'm glad I took a chance on it. It's definitely a bit more spendy than some other options but I do believe the kit is worth the price - which is much more than I can say for the Made for Google Power Support screen protector this one replaced.
