Best Way to Set Up Tablet for Kids?

Newbie
Me again, back for question #2 (got the video-playback thing resolved - thanks for the help!). So I've spent a week or so playing with these things, and I really like them - much more so than the Kindle Fires I originally purchased, and possibly even on par with my wife's iPad. However, I'm starting to see some kinks in my setup strategy.

What I would like is for each kid to have a personalized experience - home screen, music, movies, email, etc. - but limit control over what they can purchase. My theory was to set up the tablet with each child's name and email address, then add an additional account - a family account - and tie that to Google Play store. I figured that way whatever we purchased for one tablet could be used on both (i.e. books and apps) and whatever they purchased would have to go through me (I am the credit card holder on the family gmail account).

But what I'm finding is that the family account is showing up all over the place - in email, in other Google services, etc. I can see the kids - particularly the younger (8-year-old) being confused by this (she's new to email).

Just wondering if y'all have any advice on how to go about setting these things up? Would the new multiple users feature of 4.2 be helpful, or is that just going to add another layer of complexity when the kids start punching buttons? Do apps purchased on one account (say, mine) stay available for users of the other account on the same device? If so, that might work.

Thanks in advance (again) for your help.

Welcome to the forums, adt2!
I would definitely recommend using multiple user accounts with 4.2. I'm just updating mine (since it's rooted) so haven't used it yet.
I believe there are settings in the Play Store to filter content (so no adult apps show up) as well as PIN lock paid apps. You can still have your Google Wallet account tied to their profile if they want paid apps, but this gives you a way of controlling how much they spend. ;)
The Play Store also allows for multiple accounts. If you go into settings, you can attach different Google accounts so the primary would be theirs, but if they want a paid app, you can switch it over to yours for purchase.
