Best Way To Speed Things Up

Basically I am sick of my Transform basically being unusable due to it lagging so badly.

I have one simple question, is the answer to getting your phone as fast as possible rooting it? Or is there a way to stay stock and change settings/clean up/new launcher etc that would speed things up better than rooting? (unlikely)

I've researched it, and am good with computers so I have no problem doing it if it is.

I'm going to be 100% honest with you and say that I will never have this phone unrooted again. I was stock for a while and then rooted 2.1. Best decision I ever made.
