Birthday Reminders in Google Calendar

I have saved all my friend's birthdays as all day events assuming that the reminder will ring just 10 minutes before 12AM.

For Eg. if birthday is on 31st the reminder should ring before 11:59PM of the 30th. This does not happen the reminder rings some time in the day on the 31st and thus i miss wishing my friend at 12.

I simply save mine as 1hr events (8.30am - 9.30am) and set an email reminder for the day before and one on the actual day 10 mins before.

Means I will be wishing them happy birthday around 8.30/9.00am depending upon how busy I am in the am.
