Birthdays: what's the best way to keep track of them with Android 2 ?

I'm considering moving from a Nokia to a Motorola Milestone (Android 2). What's the best way to keep track of contacts? I don't care about syncing with facebook, but it would be nice if the integrated calendar could read a field 'birthday' from my contacts automatically. Is this possible? What do you suggest?

Thanks!

If you set the birthday field on a contact it shows up automatically on the calendar. All standard Google / Android functionality - check it out on Google first if you're unsure.

Is it a new feature of Android 2? is it supposedly supported by all mobiles? I reemember reading some comments that this didn't work with Android 1.5...

Really? Cause I added some birthdays to my google contacts and then noticed that they do not show up in my google calendar like I was hoping the would. I even was trying to find a way to port the info from contacts to calendars but could not figure it out.

I made an extra google calendar just for birthdays that my wife and I share. Not as nice as google doing it for you, but you can put birthdays of people who aren't contacts.
