Bizzare Microphone Issue

Hello Friends,
My Lg G7 is a couple of years old. Suddenly the microphone stopped working with a my apps (such as Skype, Whatsapp etc) I can hear people but don't hear me, the microphone becomes mute.. However the microphone works fine with the native cell phone,
The fix was to reset the entire system from scratch, but after a day the problem returned and again I had to rebuild the system which is a pain in the neck. Any insights?
Thanks
Avi

Shot in the dark here.

The Android system only allows one app to have access to the microphone at any one time.

Also, the phone part of the device is supposed to have priority over any other app that may be using the microphone.

So, I would investigate what apps you have that use the microphone.

There is a new app on F-Droid, called Vigilante, that will notify you anytime any app uses your camera and/or microphone.

Also, there is another app on F-Droid, called Pilfershush, that can tell you every single app that has access to the microphone.
(Not its actual entire purpose, but it can be used for this.)

Thanks.
As for the mic even Google Voice is not working when this happens. I'm sure that something is wrong with the phone, probably software error.
As of now rebuilding the system is working. But I'm considering buying a new phone.

Remember what I said-
only one app can use the microphone, and the phone itself has priority.

Not Google Voice, not any other app.
You stated that the device works as expected during phone calls, correct?
This goes right allong with what I said- the phone part takes priority over any other app that is using the microphone.

So, we know that the microphone is working, and that the device is prioritizing microphone use correctly.

The idea that rebuilding the system solves the issue temporarily screams out to me that an app you are reinstalling is causing the problem.

It sounds like an app is misbehaving, not releasing control of the mic.
It could be some setting somewhere in one of your apps.

Try the apps I suggested, and maybe you can find which one it is.

In fact, you could wait until the problem occurs, and then try force stopping each app that has microphone permissions, until the issue is resolved.

Greenify is an app that you can use to test a theory like this.

Thanks again. The only app could be Whatsapp which I use all the time. Two days ago I rebuilt the entire phone from scratch. App by app.
As of now, the phone is much faster, I got rid of some annoying adds and the mic is working fine. May be I solved the problem.
