Black Screen when making calls

So, I recently replaced the screen on my Motorola Droid Razr xt912. But before I replaced it I accidentally lost the rubber grommet that fits around the proximity sensor and LED notification light. But my phone always goes dark when I make phone calls, and I can't hang up or anything like that. I was wondering if the lack of the rubber grommet would cause something like that. I had never used it as a phone before, but I recently got a SIM card for it, so when I made a call for the first time I discovered this problem.

That is probably the problem.
Stock? Rooted? Rom'd? Verizon?

Welcome to Android Forums.

On the my Turbo I use Tasker to monitor the proximity sensor and turn the screen off unless I am making a phone call. It may be a solution for your problem ...

My build is the 11-20141112-snapshot-m12-spyder. Yes, I do have safestrap. I am using a custom slot. I did backup the stock ROM. Where is the proximity sensor exactly? Is it the touch buttons at the bottom or up at the top left of the phone where the LED notification light is? Because I might just replace it if that's the easiest thing to do.

So, go back to stock, and see if it works.

Well, it's probably the proximity sensor.
Should be just right of the led.
I haven't tried replacing it, so I don't know how hard it is.
Okay, well I opened up my phone again, and if its to the right of the LED it would be pretty hard to replace, because it is in the motherboard.
