Black screen

Can anyone help me. My screen has gone completely black. Would like to restart to see if that helps but can't see what I'm doing.
Any suggestion ?

You can force a shut down by holding down the power button and the volume down button for about 10 seconds. Then simply press the power button to see if it boots up normally.

Wow, didn't think it was so easy. Seems to work perfectly now.

Any idea whay may have caused the black screen in the first place ?

I've seen it happen when a process gets hung up while the device is asleep and it won't let you wake it up. Sometimes a scheduled reboot (Samsung tabs do this, for some odd reason.) won't be able to kill off all the running apps and it hangs, too. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts happening frequently. Then it might indicate there's a hardware issue ... but that's very rare.
