Block(ing)

Hi,

If you block a contact (i.e. so you can't receive text from them until such time as you unblock them), do they know? Do they receive a message, a warning etc?

disclaimer; I did perform a search of the keyword 'block' before making this thread, but result where completely non-specific. I don't mean to clutter the place

edit; If I have made this in the wrong location, please feel free to move it and give me a slap on the wrist ;)

Depends on how you block it.

Thanks gtbarry. The way I have been blocking is to, in the message list, hold down on the thread of massages with a contact until a list pops up, I then select 'block contact'. This isn't a separate app I have downloaded, just part of the phones operations*. Just wondering if this method allows the person being blocked to realise I'm doing that.

*Pardon the absense of correct terminology, I know nothing :p

If you are willing to download an app from the Play Store, try the one above for the free version of Black List.

If someone is not in your contacts, their calls will go to voicemail. And their calls and texts will be logged in the app for you to review (in case it was from someone you actually wanted to hear from, it will be there). Either way, they will never know and you will not be disturbed (other than a silent alert in notifications that you can decide to have or not have enabled)

I'll do that now, it'll come in handy :)

Just concerned, I have already had someone blocked for a couple of days using the method I described, but I have no way of knowing whether they know I have blocked them for a spell or not (obviously I can't ask them...) :(

edit; okay, I have the blacklist app. Must say, it's mid boggling. I have blocked a certain contacts SMS only. hopefully it's anonymous, I've really no idea.

I use the "Block blacklist excluded exception list" option (upper left). That is the one that allows only contacts through. But maybe your way will work better for you.

If you want to test it, get with a friend and block them. Then use their phone to call and text yourself. Then unblock them when you are done.

...I'm actually kind of embarrassed having not thought of that myself, so obvious.

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this gtbarry, much appreciated :D
