Use a message app that has a blacklist function.
Try a long press on the message and conversation see whether that gives you the option (I've met apps where you find it from the message and others where you find it from the conversation). Otherwise I can tell you that Chomp and Textra have the feature, and expect many others do too.

Just to be clear, text (or call) blocking just prevents you from seeing the message (or call) it doesn't prevent the sender from sending it. It's more like an "ignore" than a "block". However, your carrier may be able to completely block numbers from contacting your device at all.

Use SpamHound app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.redwerk.spamhound It helps me to block any spam that comes to my phone. I created filtering rules there, so now all my incoming SMS pass through them and filtering as Junk or allowed. The app works without an Internet connection, by the way. So you are always protected from spam!
