Their target is ultimately 1,000 MPH, literally faster than a speeding bullet (but still glacially slow in the astronomical sense). They'll try for 800 MPH later this year.

The jet engine and hybrid rocket engine combine to generate the equivalent of 135,000 horsepower.

This is definitely NOT your father's Oldsmobile.
