Bluetooth connection fails with medical device - I need your help!

I am using my new Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Dexcom App for measuring my blood sugar. ( But thats not relevant here..)



When connecting it to my medical device it shows me data for about 5-10min and than having a signal lost and never connects again.



But when I connect my smartphone to my car radio or bluetooth speaker (and playing music!) it "wakes up" and starts working again.



It seems that my bluetooth reciver in my Huawei device is going into a standby-mode when only connected to my medical device. Dont know if this can actually happen... But when connected to a second device and sending data it starts working again as long as I keep sending any data to it.



Some facts to my medical device: It sends every 5 minutes an update of my bloodsugar, so its not unlikely that my smartphone is going into a "standby-Mode"...

To be honest, this app is not supported by a lot of smartphones cause of medical usage. I downloaded this version on another reddit post, where I also asked the same question. The app is just a clone of the real one, but with no restriction for other android smartphones.


My questions :

  1. Can anyone explain me what is going on and why connecting it to a second device helps ?

  2. Do you have an idea how to solve this problem in any way - for example is there a way to overwrite some bluetooth settings which are relevant for this problem to occur. Or is there any other bluetooth driver I can use ? Is there an app which simulates a bluetooth device to not have my phone connected to a physical device? Other options?

Hi!, have you tried to unnstall that app and install it back on?..also was thinking that it could be the cache this app builds on that makes the bluetooth act that way..
I know it's a clone one..but try to keep an eye open for an update in the play store for this particular app..
Some bluetooth devices have some flaws builded in..I was having the same issue with a bluetooth receiver I bought for my car the other day..if it lost contact with my §5..it wouldn't go back by it self so I have to do it manually from my phone..what I would try to do is: unroll the top of the phone(notification area), touch and hold bluetooth, that brings me to the list of bluetooth previously paired..then just hit the one I'm trying to connect with..
But I don't have to do this any more..I figured out a way through Tasker..
 
It might help to be aware of some background info on Bluetooth itself. There's a good overall run-down to read through on Wikipedia, but for a quicker summation, at least note the section on the Bluetooth version issue:

Different models of phones have varying versions of Bluetooth support, this being based primarily on the actual Bluetooth radio chip inside each phone (hardware), with the version of Android and each individual app being a secondary, supplemental factor (software). Looking through the compatibility listing on Dexcom's web site, it does appear to be a matter of Huawei phones just not being officially supported:

With that being the case, this doesn't leave you with very many options. At this point you're using an app that clearly excludes support for not just your model but the brand itself, so whatever quirky behavior you're encountering is going to be expected. This is compounded by the fact that you're not even using an 'official' app from the manufacturer but rather a third-party app that was created by an unknown source.

You may eventually find the magic work-around that you're seeking but given the situation, a health related issue and the need for Dexcom to be a tightly curated, proprietary service, you might be better off just getting a different, compatible phone.

Yeah i reinstalled the app. I also have tasker but dont really know how to use it properly :D

I will take a closer look on your websites you posted above. I know that I use a cracked app - but its only the bluetooth part which doesnt work ... thought anyone can help me with that :D

But again, for Bluetooth to work you need a phone that has both hardware and software compatibility. Dexcom doesn't support Hauwei phones so it's not matter where you can just remove the Bluetooth chip off the motherboard and install one that is compatible, nor can you just install an updated Bluetooth driver as that's a Windows thing (... and without the proper hardware that's irrelevant anyway. There isn't any such thing as a universal Bluetooth driver that will support every Bluetooth version). If you want to change the Bluetooth support built into Android, you need to re-compile it from its source code in accordance with the hardware it will be used on, a non-trivial task.
Any work-around you try to implement will be one with inherent instability so you either need to a) accept that app won't work seamlessly on your Hauwei phone, or b) wait to see if they so expand compatibility support and that it covers your model, or c) get a phone that is fully compatible.

You said the same thing which my girlfriend looked for yesterday on my smartphone ... I was like : " This cant be it, its much harder to find a solution" - But after looking for the power saving mode and disabling it on my Dexcom app it starts working XD

So thanks to all - its that simple. Now it works :D
