Bluetooth connection to car fails

Hi, I have a Sony Experia XA. I can connect the phone to the car via Bluetooth but the device sounds (phone calls etc) does not come through the car speakers but us the phone speaker.

I have looked through various web site help pages and found that the Bluetooth setting "Phone Audio" is not ticked. But when I try setting this option the tick will not save. I found if I reboot the phone the tick is set. That is until I try to connect to the car again when the tick has disappeared. Or even if I turn off Bluetooth and turn it back on again to connect to the car then the Phone Audio is unticked and will not accept my changing it.

I have tried with my second car and even a Sat Nav with Bluetooth and all have the same problem. So this looks like a problem with either the phone or Android.

Can anyone offer any help?

What vehicles do you own?
This may be an issue with the car Bluetooth, not the phones....

Thanks for the reply, but the phone (tick box) sets OK when I reboot and un-sets before I have chance to connect to the car. Plus it is the same with 2 cars and a sat nav device??

I'm begging to think there is a bug with Android/Sony!

Oh and one is a Vauxhall Astra (2017) and the other a Peugeot Boxer. Both vehicles worked fine with my older Windows phone.

Oh and just to add. The Bluetooth connection remains and I can still control the phone from the steering wheel but the call sounds are from the phone only.

My first Android after having Windows phones for 5 years - I'm not impressed.
