Help Bluetooth Drops Out After Android 9 Update

TeeSquar

Lurker
Before 9 no issues.
Radio.com streaming and my podcast player (streaming or downloaded shows) will play via bluetooth for approximately 5 minutes then stop. The apps are still in play mode so they are not pausing. Sometimes the sound will come back.
Happens on 2 different brands of ear buds
All permissions granted
Have tried clearing the cache for the app
Streaming or downloads
Power cycling the phone clears the issue, but it pops up again
Closing and reopening the apps has no effect
Not battery restricted apps
The fact that the apps remain in play mode makes me think this is a bluetooth connection issue

Thanks in advance

Can you test to see if the problem also exists with the stock Google Play Music app? That would help to narrow it down between a Bluetooth connection issue versus apps which need to be updated for Android 9's stricter background process restrictions.

As an added step, you could test with Play Music while booted into Safe Mode which would further rule out any interference from third-party applications.

Thanks.

Listening to a podcast via Play Music and so far no issues after 20 minutes, so probably as you suggest and the apps have not been updated.

Don't suppose there is anything with in the settings for the apps to circumvent the stricter background controls.

I don't think so. Your best bet will likely be to contact the respective developers to let them know of the issue so they can work on an update.
