Help BlueTooth glitch - New Galaxy S5 Lollipop and Favorite app question.

Hi all !!

I haven't posted here for quite some time, since I had bought a Note 8.
Now: I have a new Galaxy S5 and would like to know about these items:

The S5 is quite a jump from my old S2 and I even personalized the home screen with a Zedge wallpaper: looks great! BUT!

1. I sure would like to remove the bottom row, commonly known as "Favorite Apps".
Is there a way to remove this row, without loosing the apps, of course ?
Or, alternately, make the icons smaller if that is possible.

2. I am having one heck of a time to keep my new S5 paired to the car.
With the S2, once paired, the car would automatically connect the S2 as soon as I got into the car and turned it ON.
With the S5: each and every time I turn the car OFF, the connections disappears.
I can pair it no problem, but it just won't reconnect automatically, is what I mean.
I have to "re-pair" the phone each and every single time. The phone is not recognized automatically like it used to do with the old S2.
Is this a glitch with the S5 firmware?
I am running Android Version 5.0.
The phone model is SM-G900W8.
Is there a sure way to make this happen?

Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!
JP

1. There is, but not with the built-in launcher. Nova Launcher, for instance, can do both, and so can probably other launchers. I'm using Nova Launcher Prime and find it wonderful. Another trick that Nova can do, and the default launcher can't, is to increase the number of icon rows and columns on the home page, to take advantage of the big display.

2. That's not its normal behaviour. Whenever I start the car (actually, whenever I turn the radio on, even without ignition) the phone connects automatically in less than five seconds. The car is a 2011 Ford Mondeo.
I don't know what the problem is, but it's definitely not supposed behave like that.

Thanks for the reply, Vlad.
I'll certainly download the Nova Launcher and perhaps go the "Prime" version if I like it.

About the BT lost automatic connection: S2 was fine, as I mentioned, now S5 has to be paired each time I get back in the car.
I spent the last two days chatting with Samsung (Canada) support and, after much procedures, I ended up being told this (today):

"Firmware upgrades add new features and delete some" !!! What ?????

You say that you have no problem with automatic BT connection with the car ... is your phone an S5 with Lollipop?

JP

I don't know, but for me the automatic connection does not count as a "feature", but rather as basic functionality. :)
Yes, mine is also an S5 with Lollipop 5.0, but it's a different model number. I have the basic, international version, SM-G900F.

Problem partially solved:

Using the car (Subaru 2013) voice commands via the steering wheel buttons will pair the phone and automatically connect when in range.
Trying that pairing with the "console" buttons (via the sound system controls) will pair but NOT keep the phone in the "automatic BT" connection.

Hope this helps for some people.

I'm glad you've sorted it out. The procedure seems a bit odd to me, though. As I understand, you're asking the car to search for available phones, and to choose one, and to connect to it. I'm doing it the other way around. That is, the car is always in discoverable mode, and I ask the phone to search for pairable devices. When it detects the car, I ask it to connect to it.
In my car I couldn't do it otherwise even if I wanted to. But who knows, each car has its own way of doing things... :)
