Bluetooth tries to connect to last device instead of current one

I know that title is confusing, but I'm not sure how to explain it. What I am experiencing may be normal and not have a solution. I have several bluetooth devices paired with my phone. I don't leave the bluetooth or the devices on all the time. When I want to use a device, I turn the phone's bluetooth on, and turn on the device. The phone tries for a long time to connect to the last used device, sometimes tries another device, but frequently doesn't find the device I want to connect to. I have to wait until it gives up, then I can tap the device I want, and it usually connects. Is there a way around this? Like make the phone "manually" connect all the time? Am I missing anything? Thanks!

In the event that your Bluetooth is trying to connect with recently used devices that still paired. Just go into your Bluetooth settings and uncheck each device that's trying to connect Audio, Media, share, etc. From each paired device.
Only leave the device boxes you want operating boxes ✓ checked. In most cases this will stop the Bluetooth from connecting to those devices.
