my phone can not find my blue tooth device, and it is just a few inches away from i have an htc desire c....it worked a long time ago

make sure that BOTH the phone and the Bluetooth device are in discoverable mode, otherwise they won't be able to communicate. When you've successfully paired them, then being discoverable doesn't matter.
