Can someone tell me what's wrong with the contact image quality on androids? It's so ****ing blurry and ugly, almost makes it unusable tbh. Everything else about my S5 is great, I just hate whenever I open up a SMS app or my contacts app, the photos are all pixelated and ugly. It's awful to look at.

I use instagram photos usually for contact photos (612 by 612), I've tried using 720x720 pictures but no luck either. Does anyone have a fix to this, or is it just something unfixable.

My phone is Note 3 while I think the contact image quality is fine.
When you edit a contact, you may select a photo you taked with your S5 before and clip it as image of the contact. Have a try. Good luck to you.

How big is the picture on the screen? Remember that the S5 has a 1080p screen, so a 612x612 or 720x720 is having to be scaled up to fit the width of the screen.

It's not intrinsic to android: contact images on my HTC One (also 1080p) are fine, even when having to scale up (scaling down should make things look sharper). As James says, maybe experiment with image size. Also check the settings of the apps, just in case there is a display option in there (I'm not that familiar with the Samsung apps).

I have this same issue on my nexus 5 (kitkat) and no this is not about them being scaled up, if I open the pop out for a contact it looks sharp, but in contacts or my sms app (messenger) they look like crap, at least 2 maybe 3 pixels make up one pixel of the image, whereas on fb the contacts look sharp, so it's something weird in the contacts downscaling.
