Boinc claims my device has 8 cores?

I installed BOINC on my phone, and it gives me the option to set the # of cores to 8. One of my accounts also shows that I have 8 cores on the device, but how can that be? It only said 4 cores when I bought the phone. Is it that the CPU does have 8 cores but 4 are disabled by the phone's BIOS?

Device: Motorola Moto 4th Gen.
