Bookamak Virtual Pinboard

So is it for bookmarks or to write notes, like a notepad? Looks really good for either/or, but the qwerty keyboard, although original, looks like it would take too much time to type on.

Basically you can use it for both. The idea was to include a functionality that makes it possible to write longer comments for your bookmarks.

On the video, it was a little bit unconvenient position for writing (it was placed on the table) in order to get it in front of the camera :)
If you held it in your other hand the writing speed is not slower than on the hardware keyboard.

I don't quite believe that it can equal in speed of using the hardware keyboard. Unless you only use one thumb to type on the hardware keyboard and have to hunt and peck to find keys.

The UI looks kinda cumbersome from the video.

I mean the 'regular' keyboard of the G1, not a Personal Computer Keyboard. Can you type really fast on it?
Well, you won't gain speed if you pack every button into the visible screen. You never know which button you press :-)

Can you plz explain that in more details?

Yeah, I type extremely fast on the G1's keyboard. Much faster than I could ever type on any on screen keyboard.

As far as the cumbersome comment, it just looked like you had to click 18 different buttons to do anything. I just think the UI needs a lot of polishing to make it quick and easy to use. At least that's the impression I got from the video.

I just wanted to show every aspect :)

To make a note, further steps are enough:

>Starting App
>Press Load
>Select Board & Press Load
>Long Press
>Press Create
>Fill Necessary Fields
>Go

Is that too much?

In one word, yes.

It looked to me that even in the screen where you add to the fields that you had to click on a field, and then click on a button. Maybe that's just what I saw earlier (I can't watch it while I'm at work), but it looked like you tapped a text box, then hit an edit button which brought up the keyboard and allowed you to edit the field.

Really when you start the app it should come up with a default board and tapping in an empty space should bring up the interface to add a new note. I'd just load them straight to the keyboard and allow them to type the note in directly. Then if they want to change the color of the note or whatever, allow them to do that by hitting the menu button, or long pressing the note itself once it's created.

That is, when you use the 320x480 resolution. It is true that I could open the onScreen keyboard directly by clicking onto the field. However, if there is a newcomer, he sees the empty fields and may not recognize that there's a possibility to use the virtual keyboard for adding input.
In my opinion, it is not that much work to select the field and click 'write' when using onscreen keyboard.

The other thing is, that if you turn over to 480x320, you can write directly into the selected field with the hardware keyboard.
In this case, the 'Write' functionality is especially for the 'note' field, if you want to add long content (the field is just one single line). It is scrollable by the way, so you can use it for really long texts. I haven't pointed out these things in video.

[320x480 always uses onscreen Keyboard, 480x320 always hardware one]

To create a note, it is enough if you make a long press, press 'Create' and confirm with 'Go!'.
In this case, it creates a simple white coloured note without title and content, and sized 80x80...

The onscreen keyboard may be little slower than the 'regular'. But in some cases it can be useful- f.i. in darkness or if you don't wan't to clap it out :)

I am always happy to see a new implementation of an on-screen keyboard. I would have to actually try it out to see how well it works, but just the fact that you created one is a step in the right direction!
