Root [Boost Mobile] official kitkat for our sgs3

Yep. Looks like the OTA is the only way to get it right now.

I guess they're running behind as far as getting it added to Kies.

Newbie here, signed up to ask, after reading all the comments on other threads about the kies kitkat update, would the update look like this(I can't post images yet, so bare with me):

Current firmware version : PDA:MK5 / PHONE:MK5 / CSC:MK5(BST)
Latest firmware version : PDA:NDC / PHONE:NDC / CSC:NDC(BST)

That's what appears on kies 3 when I plug my phone to the computer.

Edit: My phone was recently rooted with stock mk5 and philz recovery, would it be safe to run this firmware update, assuming this is the kitkat update?

Couldn't wait for a response, went ahead and ran the firmware upgrade.

Everything went through perfectly, phone is running great now with kitkat 4.4.2.

In case you need a refresher

Here's a quick guide on how to snag the OTA tarball from Kies before it flashes itself to your phone. I haven't heard of anyone officially getting it yet, but I'm sure it'll be here soon. Timing is everything, so make sure you're quick before the file deletes itself!
1. Click on Start->Run, enter %temp% and press ENTER. First thing before you go into Kies, clear this folder out.
2. Keep that explorer window open and handy. I also suggest open another to where you want to copy it to(create new folder on desktop and keep it open).
Open Kies, let it download. As soon as it starts flashing, look for a folder with the tarball or search for .tar.md5 in the %temp% folder you have open. Copy/paste it to your new folder. Done. Congrats, you

like i said thats teh vm link, so i dont know what all will be different for yall, but just figured id post it since yall didnt have a tar at all and some people are just gunan remove the bloat anyways.

You and I know(and most everyone else) that there's absolutely no difference between ND8 and NDC, but folks like what they like, and want there carrier's build. I am actually running ND8 on my wife's S3(my old one), and plan on seeing if this NDC tar will flash over it. The overall reception of ND8 on the Boost variant, for me anyway, seriously took a down turn from MK5. And even though they all use Sprint towers, I have noticed differences in the modems in my area.

I haven't tried a different prl. I might go ahead and give that a shot to see if it makes any difference or not. I've actually had some luck with a few prl's in the past. It's worth a shot at least. :)

I'll upload the TAR soon from Kies in a few short hrs. "Latest firmware version : PDA:NDC / PHONE:NDC / CSC:NDC(BST)" backing up my stuff before I upgrade.

No need man...it's all over the forums! But awesome that you are looking out for everyone!

I have a problem with the tar from vm. I cant get data and I tried activating it and I cant even do a profile update it says it is busy try later.

Please help.

Thanks

For those folks on Boost or VM who flashed the Sprint ND8 Kit Kat tar, I have good news. I just risked sleeping on the couch to see if the NDC tar would flash over the ND8 bootloader, and not only did it flash, but it saved all of the data, just like an OTA upgrade does. She snagged it back before I was able to re-root and such, but just know, it DOES flash over it just fine, just takes awhile. Good luck!
