Root Booting to recovery shows "no command"

I wanted to make a device backup so I booted into recovery and chose "Recovery mode" and the phone immediately shows

with "No command." under it. Anyone know what's going on?

1) Stock Android recovery doesn't include any backup functions.
2) You have to hit a certain button combination to get the menu to appear. I want to say it's volume-up+power, but can't remember for sure. Like I said, though, you won't be able to make a backup anyway.

Do you have custom recovery installed?
You can get in another menu with the above
Hold power press Vol up.
