Help Brand new SD card 'full'

Hello, I am new to Android....never had a smartphone before. So my brand new 8 GB SD card won't work in my Exhibit II. Anytime i try to move anything (pictures, apps, etc) over to SD card, it says the SD card is full. Yet when I look in settings under storage, it shows there is 7.21 GB available. What the heck??!! Help please!!!

Try or re-mounting or formatting it from settings.

Tried both already. Didn't make a difference.
I also tested the card in my laptop and it works. It's definitely an issue with the phone itself and unfortunately I live in a relatively rural area....the closest tmobile store is over an hour away, otherwise I would take it in for some help.

I wouldn't worry about it until you are going that way already. pictures and apps go to Internal by default, anyways. Move them later ( though I like mine where the phone puts them. Its not like the space is short)

With stock ROM, when you plug in an SD card, it will shows up as 'EXT-SD".

For some reason, Samsung takes 1G of internal memory and mounts as "SD". So what you are seeing as full is the portion of the internal memory which Samsung is calling SD. It's a pain.

Search for Ext-SD memory in your phone and you will find your 8G memory there. You can copy over from SD to Ext-SD to make some room.

If you are on 2.3.5 ROM (not updated ROM), then you can flash a SWAP SD file to switch the Ext-SD with the internal SD.

the SWAP SD file can be downloaded here. You will have to know how to flash a zip file from the recovery.
