Bringing a phone over from Sprint

the general answer is no, you can try to call VM and see if they will help but they probably wont, but to sum up there is no legal way to do it, you will have to be a VM phone.

There's one Sprint phone that they will allow you to move over to VM USA, but for the life of me I cannot remember which one. You will need to use the forum search... one of the OpV rom devs (a female.. she has a rose in her sig) had posted which of the phones you could move over.

And that was a misunderstanding. We all thought the Optimus S they referred to was the Sprint version. It actually referred to the Optimus Slider. You will have to buy a phone from Virgin, they won't let use another carrier's phone.

I thought there were a couple of people that said they did it (I don't remember what phone it was though), so I dunno. I'm probably mistaken.. wouldn't be the first time lol.

It was confusion over the fact that VMU calls the Optimus Slider the Optimus S. I don't recall anyone actually doing it, just saying they could. The last time I read the thread I don't think anyone had actually made the change.

Maybe I read this over on her vmroms forums. I swear it's stuck in my head that I read somewhere that someone had done it. Never know with me though hehe.
I don't blame you. It's silly to pay the exorbitant contract rates that the big carriers are charging. There are enough no contract options with good phones, that I really cannot understand why so many people continue to stay on contract. It's like throwing money out the window. I switched about 18 months ago, and doubt I would ever go back to a contract carrier.

Sprints unlimited data and low rate is enough to make me stay.
The prepaid carriers historically havent had high end devices, so they automatically lose my business.
Prepaid phones also don't get much love from the dev community. That's another huge thing for me. If there's no development I don't get that phone
You've weighed your options and that works for you. But, there are an awful lot of people who do not need the latest devices, or do not need unlimited everything, who could benefit greatly by switching. Many people I know are paying double (or more) what they could be paying, and not give up anything other than their money by switching. Even those who do want the latest devices can switch to T-Mobile's monthly plan and save, since you can use any T-Mobile or unlocked GSM phone with that service.

GSM Galaxy Nexus is a high end device that you can put on several different prepaid carriers, so you're not stuck with one carrier if you're not happy there. Just take the phone and go to another GSM prepaid carrier.

I'd say that is really only true with the CDMA carriers. You can get high end phones that work on prepaid on the GSM side, though often not through the carrier, by buying unlocked phones from various retailers. And T-Mobile does allow you to buy any of their phones (to the best of my knowledge) at full price and using it on their prepaid service.

My whole point was the freedom that the high end GSM phones bring you. You cannot take a T-Mobile branded phone to another prepaid carrier.
