Help Broken Micro USB?

So my Nexus 7 doesn't start up anymore. I'm pretty sure its because the micro usb port doesn't let me charge anymore. This is the 2012 model. The Micro USB port has a little crack through the middle of it(don't ask me how, I bought it like that used). It always had trouble charging, so when it DID charge I had to prop it up against the wall, otherwise it wouldn't charge. Now it doesn't charge, and I use both the official charger from Asus and Samsung ones. So, how can I fix it? Where can I buy a new micro usb online and can you please include a tutorial on how to fix it? Thanks.

I've seen a post about a USB port repair kit but I can't find it now :-(

From memory it was a simple plug-in board, separate from the main board, and cost about $20 from someone on Amazon Marketplace.

Edit: here's a UK ebay seller showing the replacement. I'm sure it will be much cheaper from a seller in the US.

Here it is on US eBay:

There was at least one cheap US source I recall from the post I once read - in the $20 region - but I can't find it I'm afraid. That $60 ebay price is ridiculous; it makes even the extortionate UK price look reasonable.

here is some info I posted last week.

I just replaced mine on Monday. It isn't too difficult. You will need a very small philips head screwdriver. I was lucky as I had a donor with a smashed screen. It is actually one assembly for both the usb and headphone jack.

iFixit has a guide for disassembly, but it is out of order for this repair. You simply pop off the back cover, remove the screws for the speaker assembly and move it out of the way. Then remove the screws for the charging / earphone assemble. A slight tug will remove the ribbon cable coming from under the battery, and it will easily slide back into the replacement jack.

take your time and it isn't too difficult.

about the ribbon cable...

There is a small latching flap on the connector, mainboard side. It should be gently flipped up before sliding the ribbon into it, and then latched down once the ribbon is in place.

Forcing the ribbon into the closed connector could damage it.
