broken screen no file transfer

Lurker
The screen on my note 5 has been broken. I am unable to transfer information from my old phone to a new one because I cannot select transfer because of black screen. I can hook it up to my computer but cannot save the information that is displayed on my computer screen. is informs me that I can save it to a read wright cd can I transfer the information from the cd to a new phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your post is a bit unclear about what you are doing ("hook up to computer" how, what information can you get on your computer screen, even where you are trying to "select transfer"). Are you trying to do a file transfer with a dead screen, or have you managed to mirror the screen? If the latter, does the touchscreen work (this may work even if the display doesn't)?

If not, you can interact using a wired mouse or keyboard and a USB OTG adapter, and if you can get the screen mirrored (I don't recall what mirroring options the Note 5 supports) plus that then you are sorted: that would let you control the phone while mirroring the screen via USB, and hence manage a cloud backup, WiFi backup or whatever. But if you can only mirror through the USB port then you'd not be able to see what you are doing while using wired input devices, so a lot of trial and error would be required (I managed this once with a broken HTC M9, but it took time and patience...).

I have a note 5 the screen is damaged so all I can see is a black screen. To transfer everything from my damaged phone to the new phone you have to be able to view the screen with your icons to be able to select the icon to start the file transfer to the new phone.I cannot see the icons to select transfer because the screen is black. I can connect the phone to my computer through the charging port which allows me to view all the things that are on the phone. The program will not let me save these folders to my computer and then to my new phone. The only thing it will allow me to do is to burn these folders to a cd. Using a read right cd will I be able to transfer the folders from the cd to the new phone ? Verizon states that it cannot be done so I loose all the files and info will this work or do anybody know of a way that will work ?

I believe that if Verizon wanted to they could connect to a phone and accomplish a cloud transfer I think if anyone thinks that they don't have that ability I have some land in Florida for really cheap.

What program is this that you are using on the computer? In order to make a cd it has to be able to copy the files, so the restriction seems silly.

Logically if you can get the data off then you can copy them back. But understanding why whatever you are using has this limitation would help to be more certain. Especially if it's doing something odd like making a disc image. Without knowing something about the app you are using on the computer it's not possible to really answer your question.

The other thing to watch: what information do you want to back up? It's very likely that not everything will be visible to whatever app you are using (a lot of stuff lives in areas you cannot access without root), so you want to make sure you have the important data rather than trusting that it will be included.

I am using windows 10 pro if there is a program that would make this task easier what would it be. At this point I would settle for just the pictures. As you can tell I am not the master of computers.

You will have to make a new folder on your computer and copy and paste it to that folder.
