Browse archive via Windows Explorer - wifi

Hi everyone,

I just bought a Realme 6 (first Android smartphone after 4 BlackBerry and 1 iPhone) and I'm wondering how to access the smartphone's internal storage via wifi and using Windows Explorer, no browsers or apps. I just searched the internet for 2 hours but didn't find anything.
Is there any way to do it? I could do it on Z10 and Z30 6 years ago, so I cannot believe it can't be done in 2020 on Android.

Does Windows Explorer support FTP? Realme is actually Oppo, and AFAIK their phones support FTP wireless connections as standard. I know MacOS has FTP in its Finder, and can connect and browse Oppo phones via WiFi, nothing extra to install, as does Linux. But I don't use Windows of course, so can't help you much more.

Probably Microsoft only ever directly supported their own Windows Phone, which is now discontinued. And with an iPhone, you must install iTunes, before you can do anything with the thing.

Actually, yesterday I managed to create an FTP server on Windows, I put some files in a folder and I could browse them on my Realme, but I'd need to do the opposite, browse smartphone files on my pc, do you think it's possible?

PS: iTunes is one of the main reasons why I switched to Android eheheh

Yeh should be able setup an FTP server on the phone and browse it from Windows. Check in the Realme file browser settings, and there maybe FTP server settings there. Realme are made by Oppo I think, and Oppo phones always had an FTP server as stock, via the file browser app. If not there's FTP server apps in the Play Store.
 
Unfortunately there's no more FTP option in stock file Explorer, but I found it in Xiaomi file Explorer, so when I need to transfer some files I open it, select FTP then Start and I can see my phone's archive in Windows File Explorer, typing the phone's IP address

I can easily do on my PCs what you're asking, using KDE Connect. Of course, all of my PCs, including laptops and Chromebooks, run Kubuntu Linux. :D

I know you don't want to use a browser, but if you change your mind, Airdroid is very well known and easy to use. If you give it a try you may find that it's a workable, albeit not ideal, solution.
