It looks like our nifty, new little OS is getting another one-up over our favorite Apple device in the coming months. Adobe has now all but announced that one of their flagship services, Flash, will be coming to an Android browser near you (let’s hope it’s very near you!). Specifically, Adobe announced forthcoming support for [...]

I know what flash is, and that it's cool, but can someone give me a little more detail as to why this is a big deal?

Because very few (no?) phones currently support flash. Especially the iPhone :D

It's going to be another feature that the G1 has, but the iPhone doesn't. Apple has a vested interest in NOT having Flash on the iPhone, because it is effectively a way to get around the apple app store.

Oh and Flash will bring redtube.com and youporn.com to the G1:D

many website creators/designers like to use Flash to display basic information. video is only one application, and the one that people talk about the most. some sites are entirely flash-based, which means you can't visit them at all on your G1.

so, it is potentially a huge deal. but it's only as huge as it has been implemented in sites, not any huger.

One real recent example, was that you could not browse the California state election results in map form on the G1. But at least they had the sense to offer a text based option as well.

Maybe what's even huger is that now we get to say "neener-neener-neener" to our Apple buddies who are dying for flash (while thinking they are the best thing since sliced bread)... :D

but that's only if you're petty and immature

Yeah, Flash started as simple animated graphics and is now often used for video... but entire applications and games can run in flash... it has become pretty powerful. This is a big deal.

Yeah, Flash will be a big thing on android.. I'm still curious to see how it will work as I have seen some very heavy graphics in flash.. the bandwidth usage will spike as everyone gets access to this i'm sure. (anyone know if T-Mobile is keeping the 1GB cap, I can see this being a problem with flash)

Does anybody anybody have a Estimated Time Arrival of the Flash(adobe) for our G1 Phones?? Sorry, just so Anxious, since i read this thread....:)

yeah, I think with Flash I will be able to watch Live NFL. Also, if the G1 supported flash, we could have some slimmer apps.

You should be able to stream satellite radio when the flash player comes. I was hoping it would be with teh Opera browser. Oh well.

watch nfl?. I don't think you can do that in the US. Tell me how please.

If you log on to NFL.com you can watch the games live for a price otherwise you can stream them in play by play with some graphics of a field....

Not really. You can listen to games. Which still requires flash and you can watch, maybe the Thursday night game, sponserd by NFL network. But there is still no way to watch Sunday football on the internet in the US.

If you live abroad you can at Yahoo.

forgot everything you guys are talking about lets get back to a more important, when the hell can we expect flash???

Seriously I keep hearing about it on news sites, review sites, etc... but NO ONE seems to have a date they all just say it's coming and soon.... I'd be happy with just knowing the month they plan to release it.... Give us something...
