BT control of phone music

Hi

I recently upgraded from a HTC One X to a One M8. I pair my phone to a Sena SMH-10 BT headset in my motorcycle helmet, amongst other things, to listen to music. On my old One X, I could turn the Sena on, and after it told me it was connected to the One X, I could start the music on my phone directly from the helmet. With my new One M8, it tells me it is connected but I cannot start the music. I can initiate a phone call but cannot start the music from the headset. I have to open the phone and start the music manually. Thereafter, I have full control.

My phone is using 4.4.2 and Sense 6.0.

Is there a setting I need to change? I've looked but cannot find anything that makes a difference.

I tried to post this in the Questions Forum but the forum wouldn't allow me, sorry.

Hi Skidsuk, and welcome to Android Forums!

I sometimes have the same issue: sometimes I have to start the music manually and thereafter control it with the headset... sometimes it all just works from the get-go. I don't know if it's the headset or the Bluetooth binaries that are to blame.

Sorry I don't have a solution, but take some comfort in the fact that you're not alone :o

It's great to have you here :)

Welcome to the forums!

Sounds like a compatibility issue. Was your One X running KitKat as well?

I am assuming no. Do you know if there are any software updates for your BT headset just to see if you can update it and get it working properly?

Hi, thanks for replying.

Firmware for the headset is up to date. Not sure what software the One X was running but you'd have thought they'd have something like this sorted.

I mean there are so many different BT headsets that they can't take account for every single one.

I know I have a Pebble Smartwatch which solely uses BT to communicate with my device and that even is sketchy sometimes.

I don't know if there is really anything you can do about it.

It seems I can occasionally control the music without doing anything to the phone, but mostly I have to start the music via the phone. No idea why it sometimes works & sometimes doesn't.

I have discovered that I can open the phone, swipe to the page with my music shortcut on it and then just by doing that I can start the music from the headset.

Perhaps I should try a 3rd-party music player?
