Budget android phone?

Hi,
I am looking to buy my first android phone. Mainly I want it to play music/movies on. I don't have a 3G plan so I will use a 2G AT&T sim and wifi for data.

I've looked at a lot of phones but I can't seem to decide, probably because of a lack of knowledge about android phones. I would like to keep the price around $200, and used/refurbished is fine.

Some stuff:
- Budget: Around $200
- Prefer unlocked phone, but AT&T would be okay too
- Main usage: Music/Movies/Texting/Calls
- Battery life is important to me, would be nice to have 6+ hours of usage
- Big enough screen size for movies to be reasonably watchable
- I'm open to "rooting" a phone, though I have no experience with this

If anyone has advice you think is important for a first time buyer, or things watch out for/avoid, it would be appreciated very much. Or if you know a good phone that you feel would work well for my uses, please do suggest it.

Thanks a lot,
Bob :)

Hi Bob, We have to stop meeting like this.

Not a Budget Phone but AT&T has the Samsung Galaxy S3 (The current top of the line phone from Samsung) for $49.99 with a New User 2 year contract and there is a way to turn off the 4G/LTE stuff so your only using 2G. Also if you purchase it as an update for your existing phone with an account extension it only costs $99.99. You never know. 4G/LTE might come to your area at some point in time. The deal is available through Amazon.com.

Thanks for the headsup, but I can't afford to be in a contract right now.

Keep in mind that a "budget" phone will likely not provide an enjoyable experience with regard to movies and battery life. I got my Droid Razr HD because of the size of the screen (4.7") and the enhanced battery life (48+ hours) but this phone was only $200 on contract. I would recommend looking into the specs of a phone before purchase, that will give you an idea of what to expect.

I have the optimus G i love it only costs $100 w/ contract :) through AT&T my bill runs about $178 per month with a 10% student discount, and 3 lines

If you can come up another $50 or so, it looks like you'll have more options to choose from...maybe find a steal on an HTC One X or a Galaxy S2...The Atrix HD probably isn't too bad either.
