Desktop SSD's cost an arm and a leg anyway if you can find one. Have to buy an adaptor for a 2.5". It's all a little frustrating.I thought it interesting that most desktop systems don't use an SSD. When I built my desktop earlier this year I specifically used a relatively small SSD for the OS drive and then all the data went on 2TB conventional 7K drives. The thing rocks.
Also interesting is the fact that some manufacturers are using the SMR technology and apparently hiding that fact. I can't imagine how much it would suck to end up with an SMR SSD. Ugh.
Thanks for the article, it was good reading.

I'm confused; are you talking about the physical adapter so you can mount the drive in a 3.5" bay? If so why bother? I bought a regular old 2.5" micron and zip-tied it into place. I needed to do that anyway because I was going to use all of the drive bays for the storage array. Same drive as I bought for my laptop, just a smaller size since all it needs to do is run the OS and swap file.
This is what I did in my old computer,In which I had 2 SSD's running in Raid0.If you're just worried about the physical fit, you can buy a little adapter for like $15. You screw the SSD into it, then it fits in the standard 3.5" bay.
