I just started a new job that provides you with a phone of your choice. I picked Verizon for the carrier but after researching the phones for them i'm kinda torn in-between some. From what it looks like the best phones for V is Droid X and Droid 2. I care the most about speed/performance and the ability to update to the newest firmware in the future. I'm also eligible to choose AT&T and US Cellular. Can anyone give me some of their opinions? Thanks all!

Wait for the Thunderbolt.
There are many other factors and variables to consider when choosing a phone though. You should also look for aesthetics, ergonomics, affordablility, etc. Typically speed and performance will sacrifice battery life. Also you can't really judge a phone on anything "future" cause no one knows when, or even if, there will be a need for a firmware/software/hardware upgrade.
If you have options between carriers you should consider price plans and coverage.
Lots of things to think about before you just jump into a device.

Droid 2 Global has the highest off-the-shelf performance of currently-available VZW phones (using clock-rate as a proxy for overall performance).
The Thunderbolt will beat that considerably, according to leaked specs, etc.
There are 2 ways to look at future firmware / OS upgrades: official push from the manufacturer, and unofficial flashing on your own.
Both Motorola and HTC add their own UI extensions (Blur and Sense) to stock Android, and hence, must do some work before new releases of the OS get officially blessed by them. Currently, the phones from both can also be rooted and booted with unofficial versions of Android, but rumors are that Motorola is continuing to try to lock their phones down so that will not be possible. I do not believe that have yet done that, though, with current models. Caveat: I have a completely stock D2G with no intent to either root or try an unofficial upgrade, so my comments are based on what I *think* I know.
