buying an HTC Magic in Hong Kong

I was looking for an HTC Magic in Hong Kong. There are retailers selling them new on Nathan Road for 2500 and 2880 HKD. The retailers told me they were unlocked. Yet other retailers are selling them for around 4400 HKD. The major retailers are also asking around 4400 HKD.

Why is there such a big price difference? What is the catch here?

I have no clue but would guess the internals are different? You might take off the back of a sample of the inexpensive and more expensive ones and see if you can spot obvious differences?
