Buying Epic 4G S II outright - Can't Return - Need Advice

Hey,
I'm thinking of parking my Nexus S 4G and getting this phone. I would have to buy it outright and there are no returns when you buy a phone outright unless it's defective. Are there any issues with reception or 4G? I'm in NYC so I'm loving the 4G speeds. I just don't want to make a $500 mistake. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

The nice folks at the Sprint store were very firm that there are no returns on a phone bought outside of plan.

Hey man,

Make sure that is a full blown, corporate owned Sprint store. That sounds like a load of BS. I know if you go to Best Buy and get it outright you have 30 days to return it (since it was not bought on a contract the 14 day rule wouldn't apply).

Even if you buy it on eBay, just get the Total Equipment Protection and you can get it replaced if something is wrong with it. Even if you don't want to pay $8 a month forever, just drop the TEP after you know the phone is good.

Sprint stood by no returns on phones bought outright. So I went to Best Buy - Thanks Sven! - and BB matched Sprints price, was $649, and I got a 30 day return. Woot! But they said if I rooted it I couldn't return it.

Obviously the people at the Sprint store just didn't want to sell you the phone outright, most likely because they don't really make much money off it when it is bought outright. But you definitely can return it, I worked for Sprint before and took returns on phones that were bought outright all the time.
