BYOD 3g PHONES?

I was thinking about buying an unlocked 3g phone because I could care less about 4g but anyways I want to hear how others like their BYOD 3g phones on metro pcs. The CONS and PROS and do I really need to buy a unlocked tmobile phone or can I just buy a metro pcs sim and use it even though it isn't unlocked? I'd really like the help.:D:):D:o

The original Moto G from 2013 and the new 2014 model are unlocked form Motorola and will both work on Metro, plus they have HSPA+ speeds.

Unlocked AT&T phones work also.

+1 what Kate said. I'm using the original Moto G on Metro and love it. I get nice speeds; maybe averaging 5 meg download speeds. It's not super fast like LTE would get me, but I'm very happy with it.

What plan are you on since its not 4g???

Another question...if I buy a phone from a metropcs store, can I just activate it myself or do I have to let them activate it? Because I don't want to pay the installation fee....is this the same with a BYOD too? ANd would I have to buy another sim because I have a Samsung exhibit and isn't the sim for 4g phones not 3g?? Thanks yall for the replies:)

Well if the Sim is the wrong size you may need to either cut it Down or have it cut, your plan will cost the same 3g or 4g doesn't matter.

I'm on the $40 plan and haven't been speed dropped yet.

If you but it in the store, they won't let you leave without activation. Buy it online or somewhere else and activate online or via the phone.

You should be able to use any unlocked gsm phone no matter what carrier it was b4 it was unlocked as long as the SIM unlocked.. and if you n buy a metro phone from store im pretty sure you gotta pay a $5 fee regardless cuz they wouldn't sell me the phone unless I activated it with them. At least where I went to..

When I got my Moto G, I bought the SIMS card pack from Walmart for $10. My existing CDMA SIM card would not work and wasn't the right size anyway. That is the fastest and easiest way to get the right card IMO. Then you just call Metro to activate it (from neither the new phone nor the one being deactivated). It cost me nothing but the $10 for the card.

I didn't think about getting my SIM at Walmart. I'll have to remember that when we get my wife a new phone to replace her Motion.
