What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is like a scavenger hunt for grown-ups. You search for a "geocache" (usually a film container or other similar container), and either sign a log inside or trade an item of your own for an item in the container. You can also set your own caches, and comment on other people's caches. It's fun to create puzzles and riddles to solve in order to find your cache!
Why an Android app?
Traditionally, you would log into a geocache site (e.g., geocaching.com) and search for geocaches. Once you find one you want to look for, you can take those coordinates and input them into a handheld GPS of some sort. Of course, this is a great opportunity for an app, because you can search for caches and use the built-in GPS on your phone!
How is c:geo compared to other similar apps?
c:geo provides an easy-to-use, fully featured geocaching experience. Unlike most other geocaching apps, you aren't redirected in any way to the website in order to search for geocaches or get information about a specific cache. You have a multitude of criteria to search for (including searching around your current GPS location), and the detail screen for individual caches contains all the information you'll need (including description and hints). From the detail screen, you can press Menu and select the button to start navigating. Your options are Radar (install from Android Market), Compass (included), or Google Navigation (included in Android 2.1 & later). Going back to details is just a single Back button away.
Should I download c:geo?
c:geo is so easy to use, you can place the focus of your attention on actually finding some caches, instead of on fumbling around the app. c:geo is the most comprehensive, easy-to-use, and intuitive Android app I've found for geocaching, and best of all... it's free! So should you download c:geo? Absolutely.
