Well it's happened. Apple Fans rejoice, the New Iphone has been introduced. C-Net has a nice play by play of the presentation here:

As many of you have guessed, other than some interesting display and some very interesting gyroscope technology there really isn't a lot to the new Iphone that is not already being done by Android 2.2 and the latest batch of high end android phones. Before the fanboys jump down my throat, yes there are other interesting features of the phone, but most of the ones covered where service related and not really having to do with the phone itself. a Nice phone, don't get me wrong, but it is not the breakthrough that prior generations have been. It still remains highly encapsulated (both in physical and software terms) and while some technologies introduce definitely expand the functionality of the phone, it is not the leaps and bounds improvement that prior editions were, or that steve jobs continues to say it is. As I see it (from a consumer POV) this Iphone brings the platform in line with the latest batch of high end android phones more than anything. The Iphone continues to be better at some things, while android and it's devices are better at others, and as of today, neither is drastically better all around (Though I would say that Android has a slight edge on this point).
A nice phone indeed and it will appeal to Iphone fans a lot and to folks who prefer a device that you can just turn on and use right off the bat. If you like more flexibility and customization in your platform (as well as porn - sorry couldn't pass that one up ), then this is not the device for you. What I have to wonder now is, with the incredible pace at which android devices are advancing from a specs POV, I can't help but feel that in another 6 months even this new Iphone will be playing catch up to the latest batch of high end Android devices. Anyhoot, That's how I see it.
